Dana How does Sundry know which returns a client owes?

Sal It starts with what the business does. Sundry analyzes each client's business activity to decide which returns apply.

Sal Washington's B and O rate depends on the activity: retailing, wholesaling, service and other activities.

Sal Do two, and the business is taxable under each.

Sal Building for a homeowner is, by law, a retail sale.

Sal Sundry classifies each business activity and each product line, and measures each on the base the law sets.

Dana What about cannabis, or fuel?

Sal Those carry excises on top.

Sal Cannabis: thirty-seven percent of each retail sale.

Sal Spirits: taxed on price and by the liter.

Sal Vapor and tobacco: their own taxes.

Sal Fuel under the state fuel tax is out of retail sales tax, and that tax can come off the station's B and O.

Sal Food is exempt from sales tax, but prepared food, soft drinks and bottled water aren't.

Sal That line runs through every grocery, convenience store and restaurant.

Sal City B and O follows the activity too: sales go where it takes place; services are apportioned.

Sal Each industry has its own page. Open yours at sundry.tax/industries.
